The Prostate and Breast Cancer Foundation (PBCF) was established in 2010 by directors Reg and Samantha, inspired by a work colleague who was diagnosed with late-stage breast cancer as a young mother.
Throughout her two years of treatment, they saw how important access to wellbeing support can be for people facing cancer. This experience inspired the development of the CAN-B Fit Exercise Program.
PBCF runs CAN-B Fit programs across Sydney, including at Restore Oncology and Lymphoedema Clinic in Miranda. The program welcomes women with breast cancer and men with prostate cancer at any stage of their cancer journey—from one week post-diagnosis to many years beyond treatment.
CAN-B Fit provides safe, structured and professionally guided exercise to support participants through treatment and rehabilitation. Cancer treatment can have a significant impact on physical and emotional wellbeing, often causing fatigue and reductions in strength and bone density. Exercise can help manage these side effects, support recovery and improve overall quality of life.
The benefits also extend beyond physical health. After each exercise session, participants meet for coffee, providing a welcoming space to share experiences, discuss concerns and connect with others who understand what they are going through.
The financial cost of cancer can make accessing specialised exercise programs difficult for many people. PBCF believes exercise is medicine and does not want anyone to miss the opportunity to experience its potentially life-changing benefits.
Taren Point Bowling Club is proud to support the CAN-B Fit Program through ClubGRANTS funding. We are especially pleased that our contribution is helping a specialist program operating locally in Miranda.
CAN-B Fit offers much more than exercise—it helps people rebuild strength and confidence, reduces isolation and creates valuable connections during an incredibly challenging time. Supporting initiatives that improve health, strengthen community connections and make important services more accessible is at the heart of our commitment to the local community.
