Purple Friday – May 8th
On Friday the 8th of May, Taren Point Bowling Club will proudly take part in Purple Friday, a statewide initiative standing up against domestic and family violence — and we’ll be doing it our way, on the greens.
Purple Friday began as a simple but powerful grassroots response to tragedy in Ballina. The idea was straightforward and impossible to ignore: wear purple to say that violence has no place in our homes, workplaces, or communities. No speeches required. Just presence, visibility, and care.
What started small quickly grew. Clubs, schools, and businesses joined in, and wearing purple became more than a colour choice. It became a reminder to check in, to speak up, and to show support for those affected by violence.
In 2025, the movement gained further momentum with the launch of Clubs for Community United Against Violence by ClubsNSW. More than 25 clubs across New South Wales and Queensland are now working together through education, advocacy, and connection to create real change.
At Taren Point, our social bowls players will be joining in, wearing purple and quite literally turning the greens purple for the day. It’s a visible show of solidarity, community, and shared responsibility — a reminder that sport and connection can be powerful platforms for change.
Purple Friday isn’t about grand gestures. It’s about participation. A conversation over a roll of bowls. A shared moment. A clear message that domestic and family violence affects every community, and ending it is everyone’s responsibility.
On Friday the 8th of May, everyone visiting the club is invited to wear purple to show their support. We’ll be playing in purple. And we’ll be standing together — because community is strongest when it chooses care, courage, and action.
