New Faces on the Green at Taren Point
Taren Point Bowling Club welcomed a fantastic group of newcomers onto the green today as part of our Try Bowls Day, held during the Sutherland Shire Seniors Festival.
Ten people came along to experience lawn bowls, many of them rolling a bowl for the very first time. The group included a mix of club social members curious about the game, locals who discovered the event through the Sutherland Shire activities database for seniors, and friends of current bowlers who encouraged them to give it a go.
Our Head Coach Ray Pearce, alongside Scott Garry, put the group through their paces, showing them the basics of the game, from how to hold the bowl to how to deliver it towards the jack.
By all accounts the group had a fantastic time, with plenty of laughs, some surprisingly good bowls, and a real sense of enjoyment as everyone began to get the feel for the game.
Importantly, the day doesn’t stop here. All participants were invited to continue their bowls journey with free coaching sessions and complimentary bowling membership for the remainder of the season, giving them the opportunity to build their skills and become part of the welcoming bowls community at Taren Point.
Events like this are a wonderful way to introduce new people to the sport and demonstrate just how social, inclusive and enjoyable lawn bowls can be.

With so many smiling faces on the green, the day was a huge success — and we may have just welcomed a few future bowlers to the club.
