At Taren Point Bowling Club, we’re proud to shine a light on the Cronulla Caringbah Sharks JRLFC — a club that has been shaping rugby league in the Sutherland Shire for more than 90 years.
The Sharks’ journey began in 1932, growing from humble beginnings in the Sydney Houses competition to officially becoming the Cronulla Caringbah JRLFC in 1952. Over the decades, their colours, emblem, and identity have evolved — from black and white to brown and gold, and finally adopting the now-iconic Shark in the 1990s.
The club has played a pivotal role in rugby league history. In 1963, they helped form the Cronulla-Sutherland Junior Rugby League, and by 1967 their senior side stepped up to NSWRL First Division as the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks. Today, they proudly remain the only junior club to have founded both the men’s and women’s Sharks NRL teams.
Far more than just a football club, the Sharks are trailblazers. In 2016, they pioneered pathways for women’s rugby league in the Shire, with inaugural teams winning premierships in their very first season and laying the foundations for today’s professional women’s game.
With more than 40 teams across all ages, a family-first approach, and a strong commitment to inclusion, development, and lifelong mateship, the Sharks continue to thrive. Their Tiny Fins program is now nurturing the next generation, introducing children as young as two to the joy of rugby league.
The club’s values remain clear: locals looking after locals. Their recent successes — including 2025 grand final wins for their Under 13 Silver, Under 14 Girls, Under 16 Gold, and Under 17 Silver teams — prove that their proud history is driving a strong future.
